Examples of Completed Projects

Zirplast

Plastic and Circular Economy in the Equipment, Wood, and Design Sector

The ZIRPLAST project consisted of conducting a study on the possibilities of plastic linked to the Circular Economy in the building equipment sector, aiming to increase the added value of products considering their life cycle, providing value propositions and “turnkey” solutions, enhancing new chains that improve competitiveness and promoting cycle closures that optimize the recovery of usable plastics.

In this way, this project developed demonstrative pilots by recovering or reusing plastics that may be suitable for creating equipment products, thus identifying new business opportunities for the sector through their implementation.

ADINET

Industrial research for the creation of advanced and sustainable materials for furniture manufacturing through the upcycling of degraded polymers

The main objective of the ADINET project was the technological validation of revaluation processes for polymer waste, turning them into advanced and sustainable materials for furniture product manufacturing.

The project generated the necessary knowledge to define the critical processes for creating polymer materials based on fishing industry waste and analyzed the potential intersectoral value chains that would result from their development.

Consequently, work was done from the characterization and supply processes of the raw material to the development and laboratory-scale testing of furniture components manufactured from this material, using additive manufacturing technologies and mold injection. Methods for traceability of parts and their complete life cycle were also studied to obtain data on the improvement in the environmental impact of the new products.

Starting from the concern of institutions regarding waste management issues and the increased awareness of the general population about the importance of consuming more sustainable products, ADINET was born with the vocation of becoming a strategic project for the introduction of the circular economy in the habitat sector.

Through this project, the creation of new sustainable materials and short local value chains was pursued to replace fossil-origin materials that are currently being used in the furniture and building equipment sector, which, at the sectoral level, in the Basque Country alone, represent a consumption of more than 500 tons of plastic per year.

CALCULATION OF THE CORPORATE CARBON FOOTPRINT

Through this project, a tool was developed that has evaluated the organization’s behavior in various impact categories, allowing 10 SMEs associated with the cluster to calculate their corporate carbon footprint (CCF) with scope 3. This tool will enable them to know the environmental footprint and carbon footprint of their organization to better respond to environmental information demands received from their customers, anticipate possible requirements that may be imposed at a regulatory level, and to improve the management of the organization by enhancing its environmental impact, without the need to outsource the calculation, so that the staff acquires specialized knowledge in environmental impact assessment.

CIRCULAR SME ADAPT-ENV

Adaptation to the new packaging regulations from the furniture sector through Ecodesign

The objective of this project was to satisfy and improve the requirements collected based on the Royal Decree on Packaging and Packaging Waste by the products of the participating furniture sector companies and use them as a communication tool for environmental sustainability towards their customers.

Adherence to Global Compact

What is Global Compact?

The United Nations Global Compact is the world’s largest voluntary corporate social responsibility initiative, with over 13,000 signatory entities in more than 170 countries.

Its purpose is to transform the global market, promoting a sustainable and responsible private sector based on 10 principles in areas related to human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. The United Nations Global Compact pursues two main objectives:

  1. Incorporate the 10 Principles into business activities worldwide.
  2. Channel actions in support of the broader United Nations objectives, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
