Innovation in Sustainable Seating with 100% Bio-based Materials
Habic, together with Ondarreta, Plásticos Urteta and Tecnalia, is carrying out the ECOALTZA project, which aims to develop ecological chairs using biopolymers and bio-reinforcements derived from biomass, achieving products that are 100% from renewable and biodegradable sources. These chairs will be designed to fit current processes and machinery, offering high resistance and durability.
The project focuses on the optimization of the biocomposite injection process, improving its mechanical properties and resistance to solar aging. To achieve this, new combinations of biopolymers and natural fibers are being researched, such as tannins, lignin, or hemp, with the aim of developing a real and competitive alternative to fossil-based plastics.
Furthermore, ECOALTZA is committed to using local raw materials, contributing to the reduction of carbon footprint and promoting circular economy. At Habic, we support this initiative that drives innovation and sustainability in the habitat sector, aligning with European market trends and strengthening the positioning of Basque companies in the field of eco-design.
